Budget 2027 Tax Relief: Why Your Teeth and Your Wallet Will Thank You
If you’ve been lepak-ing at the mamak or stuck in the crawl on the Federal Highway lately, you already know what everyone in KL is gossiping about: Budget 2027. Between rising grocery prices and trying to survive the KL life, the one hot topic on everyone is talking about is how much relief we’re actually getting.
Well, here’s some good news. For the first time since way back in 2010, the Malaysia ‘GOMEN’ is finally giving our individual income tax baseline a proper bump—pushing the automatic relief from RM9,000 straight up to RM12,000. If you’re an M40 earner trying to juggle the cost of living in the Klang Valley, that extra RM3,000 written off your chargeable income is a very welcome breather. Plus, with slight tweaks dropping the middle tax brackets down by 1% (like the RM70,001 to RM100,000 band moving from 19% to 18%), filing tax season won’t feel quite so painful this time around.
But wait, it gets better. Beyond the headline-grabbing baseline increase, smart taxpayers are also looking closely at the medical and health-related claims—especially dental care.
We all know private dental clinic bills can expensive. Under the restructured “Health and Well-being” category (which covers your general medical limits up to RM10,000), dental treatments, scaling, and checkups still feature that dedicated sub-limit of up to RM1,000.
The local pro-tip? Don’t throw away your receipts. Whether you’re doing routine scaling or sorting out a painful filling, keep those clinic invoices neatly organized. Combined with the new RM12,000 individual relief, making full use of your medical and dental deductions is the easiest way to claw back some hard-earned cash.
As a dentist , I have always remind my patients to file their receipts or they can just request them from us again for tax purposes.
Schedule your yearly checkup and scaling before the year ends !
